Upneeq works by stimulating a muscle in the upper eyelid, temporarily lifting the lid and creating a more open appearance.

How Do You Use Upneeq?

Upneeq is used once daily by placing one drop into the affected eye or eyes, as directed by your healthcare provider.

Each vial is intended for single use and should be discarded after use.

What Can You Expect?

Clinical studies showed that Upneeq can improve eyelid position and upper visual field in adults with acquired ptosis.

In clinical studies, 84% of patients experienced some improvement in eyelid lift, and 88% experienced some improvement in their upper field of vision. The average upper-eyelid lift reported in clinical studies was approximately 1 mm. Individual results may vary.

What is Upneeq?

UPNEEQ® (oxymetazoline hydrochloride ophthalmic solution), 0.1% is a prescription eye drop used to treat acquired blepharoptosis (low-lying lids) in adults.

Warnings & Precautions

Low-lying eyelids may be related to conditions including stroke and/or brain aneurysm, Horner syndrome, myasthenia gravis, impaired eye-muscle movement, eye infection and eye tumors. Tell your healthcare provider if you have any of these conditions.

Upneeq is a medication that may affect blood pressure. Tell your healthcare provider if you have heart disease, uncontrolled high or low blood pressure, or experience faintness at rest or when standing quickly.

Patients with reduced blood flow to the brain or heart, or those who experience eye or mouth dryness due to Sjögren's syndrome, should use caution when taking Upneeq.

Upneeq may increase the risk of increased eye pressure due to fluid buildup (angle-closure glaucoma) in patients with untreated narrow-angle glaucoma. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience increased pressure in your eye after using Upneeq.

Do not allow the tip of the Upneeq vial to touch your eye or any other surface. Each vial is intended for one-time use and should be discarded after use.

Possible Side Effects

The most common adverse reactions reported with Upneeq, occurring in 1–5% of patients, included:

Eye inflammation
Eye redness
Dry eye
Blurred vision
Eye pain at the time of use
Eye irritation
Headache

These are not all possible side effects. Tell your healthcare provider about any side effect that bothers you or does not go away.

Medications & Medical History

Your healthcare provider should review your complete medical history before prescribing Upneeq.

Tell your provider if you take medications for heart disease, high blood pressure, abnormal heart rhythm or an enlarged prostate, including beta-blockers or alpha-adrenergic antagonists.

Patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), a class of antidepressant medications, should also use caution with Upneeq.
